yes. it's all my mother's fault. lol. she raised me to believe that i was beautiful and smart, and that i could be anything i wanted to be.
Where did you meet hubby to be?
it's actually pretty funny. i was always newly single after a six year relationship. i joined blackplanet and he started sending me messages. i thought he was a total dick at first because of his long list of 'must haves' for a woman, but as we talked i discovered he was pretty cool. still, i was new to meeting people online and when he gave me his number i didn't call. so one day i was at a summer downtown festival with my mom and i see this guy click clicking pictures of me and i'm like what the heck? he was far away so i couldn't really make him out but i was shooing my hands at him to make him stop taking pics.
later that night i had an email from him that said "you're even more beautiful in person. i just had to take your picture."
it was so sweet. i felt so stupid. lol. we finally met officially and that was that.

i grew up in the burbs. lived in the city for a hot minute when i was like 22. then back to the burbs. i'm moving to detroit at the end of this month though, i'm so excited. everything we do is in the city, so it makes more sense.

hmmm. not really. i was involved in a lot of things, so i knew everyone and hung out with everyone, but i was like friends with the popular kids and the nerds. i wasn't having sex, didn't smoke, made good grades, and volunteered for a lot of stuff, and most of the 'cooler' kids were doing exactly the opposite. lol.
What school did you graduate from?

How many pairs of shoes do you own?
probably about 20. i just gave a whoooole bunch of shoes away. but i bought four pairs the other day. lol. so it's around 25-35 or so. not a whole lot.

the place i go to find balance is in my own mind. mp3 in my ears..usually playing old school or jazz. cup of green tea, and a pad and pen. writing is my therapy.

also, during the winter i usually don't have my hair out. i'm either wigging it, braided up, or in a bun. the cold dry air kills my hair. have to protect it. or move to florida or something...lol.

i was 22. in a bad relationship. jobless. broke. self-esteem was at a negative 500. i read a book called Raising Fences by Michael Datcher. i was so inspired by the poetry in the book that i pulled out a pad and pen and decided to pen what was on my heart.
it was the very first time i wrote a 'real' poem. just felt right, the pen in my hand. i seriously felt like i had had an epiphany. writing was something that was in me that was waiting to be freed. i sent the author an email thanking him for writing his memoir. his return email was all about encouragement and offering his help in any way.
i had discovered i was a writer from that one single poem...and had already started writing my book from the story that had been floating around my head. that poem then triggered me to evaluate things around me...especially my relationship. it was a very toxic one...so it had to go.
nothing but good has come since that day. it is still my favorite book.
sorry for the long answer...that took me back for a min. lol.

in my experience, no. i've always wondered where all this stuff was coming from, because all of my experiences with detroit have been positive. i love the city, and now that they've built up downtown so pretty and are still working on it, i'm even more proud to be a part of it.

hey girl! hmm...that day we walked around on the riverwalk, walked around detroit snapping pics, went back through the greektown arts festival, had a picnic in chene park, went to see the latest x-men movie at the renaissance, and then went home. it was a lot of fun, i must say.

when i lived off campus with a girl from another school, i fell asleep in the living room one night. i did that all the time because i didn't have a tv in my room. well i woke up one night to her LICKING my thigh while her completely naked boyfriend sat on the couch perpendicular to mine holding his wanker. uh yeah, talk about awkward. she said they didn't know how to approach me so they just figured they'd go for it and see how i reacted. okay, strengths. i'd say my strong will, determination. my overall positive outlook on life. my confidence. my passion about things that matter to me. my ability to express through writing.
weaknesses would be my tendency to not speak up when people take advantage of me. my severe impatience. my stubborness. my inability to express myself verbally. and by that i mean that my wit is not very quick when i'm going back and forth with someone. i'm always at a disadvantage with anyone i'm arguing with. lol. it is also very hard for me to communicate my feelings verbally.

ReplyDelete@quiet storm: i found that agent by going on a site called litmatch.com. it said she was not accepting new authors or unsolicited queries, but i sent her an email anyway, not expecting an answer. i didn't even know she was so big time when i sent it. LOL.

well for a novel, you write a good query and send it to different literary agents/publishers you are interested in working with. for mags, you can send a query or article to that publication. just make sure either is very well written.
What should it look like before you have pro's look at it??
most people recommend hiring a professional editor to edit your manuscript before submitting it to agents, but i didn't...can't afford that. lol. i just followed the basic format of 12pt font, double spaced, yadda yadda and had a few people read it and re-read it before sending it.

ReplyDeleteto answer your question, i think it is a combination of both. i have always been thin, but i've also always played sports. i played volleyball from 7th grade all the way through college, so that kept me in superb shape. now that i only coach, i run three/four times a week in the summertime. i try to get to the gym to run in the winter, but i usually don't. this winter i ran on the treadmill once, and that was a week or so ago. LOL.
